Top 5 Things to do as Austin Reopens

Please keep social distancing in mind as you go about these activities!
  1. Go to your favorite restaurant for a meal. Now that local businesses are reopening it has never been a better time to support your favorite restaurants whether it be a chain or a local favorite. Personal standouts for me that I plan on visiting include the original Chuy’s for some creamy jalapeño salsa and Homeslice Pizza for a delicious margherita pizza. Other restaurants to check out as reopening take place include Amy’s ice cream located across the city, Mighty Fine Burger located on the city’s extremities, and Casino el Camino out on sixth street.
  2. Head to your favorite swimming holes. Currently at the time of writing this certain swimming holes are closed or having their attendance limited by local officials. For example, Barton Springs is currently closed, but as soon as it opens to the public, I plan on getting a safe social distance swim in. I also plan on going to Lake Travis in the meantime and checking out numerous amounts of swimming points.
  3. Finally see a movie. With Austin being home to various stars, local theaters, and film festival the inability to see a film on the big screen has hit me especially hard. I don’t know exactly when movie theaters will be open again, but I do know that whenever they do open, I plan on seeing whatever movie as soon as I can. Even if you are not a huge fan of cinema, I cannot recommend the locally founded Alamo Drafthouse enough. They have an awesome atmosphere that starts 30 minutes before show time and burgers that always leave me satisfied.
  4. Be active! With the coronavirus being as pervasive as it is even trails have been affected. Like with swimming holes local officials have allowed trails to stay open with rules, limitations, and sometimes closures. Personally, I cannot wait to go from our location towards South Congress on Lady Bird Lake. The trail currently heads away from Congress towards our location and prevents me from my favorite tradition of walking to Soco (South Congress) for some local food and walking back.
  5. Check out your favorite public buildings. When in Austin I cannot recommend checking out some of our awesome public buildings. Some of my favorites include the Austin Public Library and the State Capitol building. Now I know the library is a weird choice, but it is home to all sorts of cool artwork, architecture, a roof garden that overlooks Lady Bird Lake, and a café that is home to delicious food and rich coffee.
