What time do the bats come out in Austin?

The bats emerge around sunset, usually within 20 to 30 minutes of the posted sunset time. We launch beforehand so you are already on the water when they fly. Emergence is earlier in spring and later in summer as sunset shifts.

When is bat season in Austin?

The Congress Avenue bats are in Austin from roughly March through early November. The biggest emergences happen in late summer, from July through September, once the pups are flying.

Is it better to see the Austin bats from a kayak or from the bridge?

From the water you get an unobstructed view directly beneath the colony with no crowds. Most people find the kayak view far more immersive than standing on the bridge.
