It’s outside! We have all been missing the outdoors during quarantine. I know personally that the worse part of quarantine has been the hours upon hours stuck indoors. So as stay at home orders are lifted the first thing I plan to do is get outdoors. Additionally, with summer around the corner I also plan…

Top 5 Things to do as Austin Reopens

Please keep social distancing in mind as you go about these activities! Go to your favorite restaurant for a meal. Now that local businesses are reopening it has never been a better time to support your favorite restaurants whether it be a chain or a local favorite. Personal standouts for me that I plan on visiting include the original Chuy’s for some creamy jalapeño salsa and Homeslice Pizza for a delicious margherita pizza. Other restaurants to check out as reopening take place include Amy’s ice cream located across the city, Mighty Fine Burger located on the city’s extremities, and Casino el Camino out on sixth street. Head to your favorite swimming holes. Currently at the time of writing this certain swimming holes are closed or having their attendance limited by local officials. For example, Barton Springs is currently closed, but…

Birthday Blast!

Guest blog post by Sarah Stasica of Treat Party Boutique I decorated (and attended) my first paddleboarding birthday party at Austin Paddle Shack and it was so much fun! I had only paddleboarded once before and I was curious about how the kids would do out there. It was a seventh birthday so most kids were only six or seven and I was surprised at how well they all did. Some of the parents were a little bit nervous (myself included) before we got on the water but once we got out there it was seriously magical. I think my friend has started a new kid birthday party trend because all of the parents were talking about how perfect everything was once we were back on shore cutting into the cake. I created the party design and package and it was…

Swimming in Lady Bird Lake

Most people are unaware that it’s illegal to swim in Lady Bird Lake. This law was passed in 1964 after two drownings occurred in the lake. The stronger than expected current and large underwater debris uphold the danger of swimming in this lake today. While you can’t swim in Lady Bird lake, here’s a list of watering holes where you can legally cool down: Barton Springs Barton Creek Greenbelt Deep Eddy Municipal Pool (cash only) Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis (ages 18+) Hamilton Pool (reservations required) Jacob’s Well (reservation required)
