How to Get a Drink In a Pandemic

One of the main attractions to the city of Austin is our 6th street and Rainey street areas and their bar/club settings. However, in the middle of a pandemic how are you supposed to go out for a drink? Well I have come up with a few options that either have loopholes or are great alternative options when in need of a drink. 1. Coffee Houses and Beer Gardens      Many coffee houses within the city of Austin do not just limit their menus to coffee alone. Some like Radio City Coffee (in North Austin) and Cosmic Coffee (in South Austin) offer a full bar with liquor and beer options. Top 5 Things to do as Austin Reopens

Please keep social distancing in mind as you go about these activities! Go to your favorite restaurant for a meal. Now that local businesses are reopening it has never been a better time to support your favorite restaurants whether it be a chain or a local favorite. Personal standouts for me that I plan on visiting include the original Chuy’s for some creamy jalapeño salsa and Homeslice Pizza for a delicious margherita pizza. Other restaurants to check out as reopening take place include Amy’s ice cream located across the city, Mighty Fine Burger located on the city’s extremities, and Casino el Camino out on sixth street. Head to your favorite swimming holes. Currently at the time of writing this certain swimming holes are closed or having their attendance limited by local officials. For example, Barton Springs is currently closed, but…

Most people are unaware that it’s illegal to swim in Lady Bird Lake. This law was passed in 1964 after two drownings occurred in the lake. The stronger than expected current and large underwater debris uphold the danger of swimming in this lake today. While you can’t swim in Lady Bird lake, here’s a list of watering holes where you can legally cool down: Barton Springs Barton Creek Greenbelt Deep Eddy Municipal Pool (cash only) Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis (ages 18+) Hamilton Pool (reservations required) Jacob’s Well (reservation required)
